July 15, 2016
On Saturday, 9th July 2016 the students, teachers, organisers and parents at the community-based school of Serbian “Srpskaonica” gathered together to celebrate the achievements of their language learners as well as the success of this project. “Srpskaonica” was established three years ago to meet the growing need for a Serbian Language School in Berkshire. The school, under the auspices of the Serbian Council of Great Britain is entirely funded by the parents and occasional donations.
“SRPSKAONICA” marks the end of yet another successful academic year
On this occasion, under the watchful eyes of their teachers, Mrs Mirjana Lazic and Mrs Dobrila Kostic, the students across the year groups prepared a recital which showcased some of the most beautiful poems by Jovan Jovanovic Zmaj, Ljubivoje Rsumovic and other renowned Serbian poets. In the classroom, some of the students’ best work was displayed – essays written in beautiful penmanship and a testimony to the writers’ rich vocabulary and faultless language use. At the end, Ms Olga Stanojlovic, Chairwomen of SCGB presented the students with their certificates. The GCSE students are still working hard on their course and are to sit their exam in March 2017.
The parents hope to keep the school open for many years to come. Had it not been for the hard work of the volunteers (organising committee) and the donations from the community members, this year would have been a very difficult one. In order to ensure the future of the school, we have planned a lot of fundraising activities: from cake sales to summer BBQs, from literary evenings to a half-marathon and much more! We will keep you updated and it would be great if you would like to join us!
We are also recruiting new students for the next school year. For details please get in touch with School Manager/Coordinator Georgia Zivkovic firstname.lastname@example.org
